Overview
Developed 'HyperRace,' an innovative racing game for GameJamPlus with a multidisciplinary team. I programmed the UI and game mechanics, incorporating biofeedback from a smartwatch to dynamically adjust difficulty based on the player’s heart rate. The game provided a personalized, immersive experience, earning positive feedback for its creativity.
HyperRace
Concept and Design:
Collaborated with a multidisciplinary team of five to create "HyperRace," an innovative racing game developed for GameJamPlus. The game aimed to provide a unique, dynamic experience by utilizing biofeedback from a smartwatch to adjust the game’s difficulty, creating an immersive, adaptive gameplay environment.
Development Features:
UI and Game Mechanics Programming: I was responsible for programming the user interface and core game mechanics, ensuring that the game was engaging and easy to navigate while maintaining its fast-paced racing elements.
Biofeedback Integration: The game utilized biofeedback data from a smartwatch to dynamically adjust game levels. The player’s heart rate would influence the game’s difficulty, making the experience more personalized and reactive to the player’s physical state.
Team Collaboration: As part of a five-person multidisciplinary team, I worked on both the technical and gameplay aspects of the project, contributing to the overall design and seamless integration of the biofeedback system.
Impact and Outcome:
Dynamic Gameplay: The integration of biofeedback allowed the game to adapt to the player’s emotional and physical state, offering a tailored and engaging experience with real-time difficulty adjustments based on heart rate.
Innovative User Experience: The unique concept of using biofeedback to influence gameplay added a new layer of immersion, making the racing experience feel more interactive and responsive to the player.
GameJamPlus Success: "HyperRace" was well-received at GameJamPlus, standing out for its original concept and innovative mechanics. The combination of racing with biofeedback integration impressed participants and players alike.
Results and Reception:
"HyperRace" demonstrated the potential for biofeedback to create more immersive and personalized gaming experiences. The game received positive feedback for its creativity and technical execution. This project highlighted my ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team while also managing key elements such as programming the UI and game mechanics.
